Fabric Mosaics

During the process of creating fusible appliques and fusing larger textile pieces onto canvas, I generate a lot of small fusible fabric scrap.  Since I am naturally drawn to reuse and eliminating waste, I was determined to figure out a way to use the small fusible scrap pieces.  After a lot of experimentation, I settled into the concept of textile mosaics where I use the small scraps of fabric much like a traditional mosaic artist would use tile or glass.  The small shapes are color sorted and then ironed onto the canvas in whatever design I desire.  I occasionally add embellishments like silk flower scraps, buttons or sequins to add more detail and texture.
